A woman broke a hospital's record for the heaviest newborn after giving birth to a 14-pound, 13-ounce baby.

Jennifer Medlock gave birth to her son Ali earlier this month and was shocked to learn he was the heaviest baby ever born at the hospital in Texas.

The mum-of-two and her husband Eric welcomed their son at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital on December 12.

A spokesperson for Texas Health resources confirmed to USA Today that Ali is the heaviest baby born ever born there to their knowledge.

Jennifer said the doctor who delivered Ali said he was the biggest baby he's ever delivered in his 30 year career.

The proud mum said she expected her son to be around 10-pounds, the same weight as her now two-year-old daughter.

But she was shocked when Ali was more than four pounds heavier.

Ali was delivered via a scheduled cesarean section and was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit because of his low blood sugar and platelet which Jennifer says were because of his size.

He quickly improved and was discharged on December 19 and mum and baby are both doing well.

The heaviest baby ever born weighed a staggering 22 pounds.

Giantess Anna Bates, who was 7ft 11 in tall gave birth to a boy weighing 22lb (9.98 kg) and measuring 28 in (71.12 cm) at her home in Seville, Ohio, USA, on 19 January 1879.

The baby was never officially named and died 11 hours later.
