Composition of water and nutrition peculiarities in Armenia predispose to urolithiasis – Urologist

Widespread of urolithiasis in Armenia, in its certain regions, can be related with composition of water and nutrition peculiarities. That is, in Armenia, in endemic areas, there are certain factors that predispose to stone formation, reported to NEWS.am Medicine Vahagn Ashugyan, the head of urological service in “Yerevan” medical center.

He noted that urolithiasis is found on average more often in our countries than in other places - in Russia or European countries, especially its advanced forms: stones of larger size with secondary complications, etc. Talking about what other urological diseases other than kidney stones, are specific for RA, V. Ashughian noted that it is difficult to identify any group of disorders inherent specifically for our country. According to him, all over the world for more than half of male urological diseases are associated with the prostate: benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis, prostate cancer.

«We can highlight those diseases associated with smoking, because smoking in our country has epidemic, I would say, pandemic character. Frequently among patients there are heavy smokers, who smoke almost from 4-5. A clear dependence of urological cancer from smoking has been already estimated. About half of the cases of bladder cancer and kidney cancer, the cause of the disease are considered to be smoking», he added.

According to V. Ashughian specific for RA can also be called the diseases, sexually transmitted in the same population group, which often goes to work abroad. The doctor described the case of a patient who was treated for his chronic prostatitis. The guy was very pleased with the result, went to Russia, and returned already as the venereologist’s patient – with syphilis.
