Armenia’s Health Ministry calls to refrain from swimming in some areas of Lake Sevan, where blue-green algae is observed.

According to the statement, cyanobacteria, or blue-green algae, can produce toxins dangerous to humans and animals. Their negative impact may occur if you drink this water or swim in it. As a result, asthma, eye irritation, a rash (especially around the mouth and nose), an allergic reaction can develop. If the above symptoms appear, you should consult a doctor.

The laboratory tests show that the highest risk is observed in the beaches adjacent to Vardenik and Martuni, however, the algae can spread to other areas, including if there is a certain wind direction.
