Indian strain of COVID-19 may lead to gangrene
The Indian strain of COVID-19 is not only more infectious than other strains, but can also lead to serious consequences such as gangrene.
According to Bloomberg, the new strain may trigger symptoms not usually seen in COVID-19 patients, such as hearing impairment, severe stomach upset, and blood clots leading to gangrene. Currently, it is this strain that dominates in England and Scotland, where it caused a surge in hospitalizations.
According to doctors from Mumbai, India, the formation of microthrombi, leading to the development of gangrene, has recently begun to be recorded more often than before.
Abdominal pain can also be a sign of blood clots in the blood vessels of the intestine. Some COVID-19 patients also seek medical attention for hearing loss, neck swelling, and severe tonsillitis.
The strain, also known as B.1.617.2, has already spread to more than 60 countries in the past 6 months. The surge in infections caused by this option has forced the UK to reconsider its plans to lift the lockdown. And in Singapore, the mutated variant accounts for about 95% of all local coronavirus samples isolated from COVID-19 patients.
