• Vomiting blood;
• Persistent cough (coughing);
• A hoarse voice;
• Acid reflux.

According to experts, risk factors for developing esophageal cancer include:

• Smoking;
• Alcohol abuse;
• Chronic heartburn or acid reflux;
• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD);
• Achalasia (a rare disease of the muscles of the lower esophagus).
