The spread of a new form of candidiasis in the world may be associated with global warming, EurekAlert reported.
According to Arturo Casadevall from John Hopkins University in Baltimore (USA), Candida auris and other similar fungi have adapted to warmer climates. This, in turn, helps them to more actively fight with the human immunity. Casadevall does not exclude that global warming may cause the emergence of new fungal diseases, which today scientists do not even suspect.
Only 10 years ago, in the world of science, they did not know anything about the Candida auris fungus, which has now produced a real epidemic of candidiasis. Moreover, the first cases of infection with Candida auris were simultaneously detected on three continents.
Casadevall and his colleagues point out that Candida auris can live and share at temperatures in excess of 42 degrees Celsius. According to them, the ability of the fungus acquired relatively recently. In this case, Candida auris affects only the skin and the inner parts of the human ear.
In connection with the rapid spread of candidiasis, scientists are calling for more attention to be given to issues of global warming, which may lead to a wave of new fungal epidemics.
