At least 20 people, mainly Armenian nationals, arrive at Zvartnots International Airport from China on a daily basis, epidemiologist at the medical checkpoint of the airport Hayk Karapetyan told reporters on Thursday, 30 January.
He said the number of passengers coming from China varies from 20 to 30.
Amid the outbreak of coronavirus infection in China, the doctors check temperature of all passengers at the airport, regardless of the country they arrived from, and naturally the focus is on those who come from China.
The epidemiologist said they know in advance whether passengers coming from China are on board of the plane. Even before landing, aircraft crews tell epidemiologists that they have passengers with signs of infection aboard. If so, these passengers are immediately isolated and transported to the Nork Infectious Clinical Hospital. A passenger having high temperature was hospitalized several days ago, but he appeared not to come from
China, and his condition was not caused by coronavirus.
Those suffering from fever and other symptoms are monitored for 14 days.
There are no laboratory tests to diagnose coronavirus in Armenia, however, if necessary, biological samples of patients with suspected coronavirus will be sent to laboratories in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands or Russia, where they can confirm or deny the presence of the virus.
