The drug used to treat viral peritonitis in cats may be effective against COVID-19 in humans.
Canadian scientists have found that this drug can suppress the work of a key enzyme of the coronavirus, said in a study published in journal Nature Communications.
According to Lenta.ru, experimental drugs GC376 and GC373 developed to combat feline peritonitis, can effectively block the Mpro coronavirus enzyme in human cell cultures. Without this component, the virus cannot multiply.
Researchers are urging that these drugs be tested in clinical trials in a volunteer as soon as possible, as the data seems more than promising so far.
