Scientists from Germany conclude that children retain antibodies to coronavirus for an unexpectedly long period of time - up to 9 months, medRxiv website reported.
The scientists analyzed data from about 4,600 children with coronavirus infection, and also tried to find out how often children are infected by adult family members and whether they pass the virus to their parents. As it turned out, 60 respondents contracted the coronavirus directly, and most of the subjects lived in families where one member had been diagnosed with COVID-19. The researchers also wanted to understand how quickly children's immunoglobulin levels dropped after the disease.
As it turned out, children do get the coronavirus much less often than their close adults. They are also much less likely to transmit the virus to family members they live with. They are also able to produce much more antibodies than their parents, and they usually retain these antibodies longer than adult patients.
