Within a year of being infected with the coronavirus, a person is more likely to develop various mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and substance use.

According to research, about 20 percent of people who have had COVID-19 encounter various psychiatric and neurological complications as part of what is known as post-covialis syndrome. The most common of these consequences are depression, anxiety and panic disorders, ischemic strokes and even brain bleeds.

In a new study, U.S. scientists assessed the risks of mental health consequences following a coronavirus infection, including anxiety, depression, stress disorder, substance use disorders, decreased neurocognitive function, and sleep disturbances.

People with COVID-19 were found to have a 60% higher risk of any psychiatric diagnosis within a year than participants in the control groups.
