A 54-year-old woman from Athens, Greece, has given birth to a baby after receiving an embryo that had been frozen for a record 22 years, Kathimerini reports.

According to the publication, the embryo was frozen in March 2004. At the time, Christina Rapti-Tzelepi was undergoing fertility treatment and eventually gave birth to a son. Last year, however, he died after being involved in a traffic accident.

Following the tragedy, the woman decided to use one of the remaining embryos. Scientists calculated that 22 years, 5 months and 23 days had passed between the embryo’s cryopreservation and the baby’s birth.

Christina Rapti-Tzelepi gave birth to a baby girl weighing 3,490 grams (7 lb 11 oz).
