Woman paralyzed after being bitten by Portuguese man o'war in Spain

June 24, 2019  16:40

Painful marks were left on Naomi Mateos, 22, skin after she was stung by a Portuguese man o'war while swimming in Spain, The Daily Mail reported.

With the tentacles wrapped around her, she started screaming, before her friend 'beat' the animal off with a diving flipper.

The pain from burns due to poisonous tentacles was so strong that Naomi prescribed morphine in the hospital.

“I burned my skin. I wanted to die. I started screaming like a crazy woman,” she said. “Only 10 metres from the shore, I felt a strong pain in my wrist that went all the way to my back. I became paralysed. I could not move and could only scream.”
