Specialists from the Medical School of the University of Pittsburgh (US) managed to grow mini-liver in laboratory conditions, taking as a basis genetically modified human cells, MedicalXpress reported.
According to the source, the resulting tissue mimics a person’s liver with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which is directly related to obesity. Genetically modified human skin cells were transplanted into the modified rat liver to create it.
A grown mini-liver has the structural features of a regular organ (for example, it has blood vessels).
