Chris Mallon, 49, from the Scottish region of West Lothian, plunged 12ft down the staircase, suffering a brain injury. After waking up from coma, he forgot that he had recently married, and he did not immediately recognize his spouse, Daily Record reported. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/scots-groom-didnt-remember-being-18956747

Chris, who drank just a couple of alcoholic drinks, fell when he helped the doorman bring wedding gifts to the honeymoon room.

“I was sober at the time. I only had a couple of drinks through the whole day. There's a railing with one bar underneath with about a half-metre gap below. My foot caught the top of the step and fell forward. I stumbled again, fell forward and could just see this gap I was going towards. I just went head-first through the gap. There was no way I could stop myself. The next thing I remember was waking up in hospital ten days later,” he said.

Chris suffered serious injuries, including fractures of the skull, bones of the back, shoulder and arm, and seriously damaged his heart and lungs. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he spent 10 days in a coma.

Waking up, Chris did not immediately recognize his wife, 43-year-old Avril.

A month later, Chris got better and was discharged from the hospital. Doctors were surprised that he was able to walk after his injuries.

But he lost the hearing in his left ear and his sense of taste and smell.
