ETVAX vaccine against E. coli diarrhea proves to be effective

November 22, 2019  09:43

Scientists from the University of Gothenburg completed the trial of ETVAX vaccine, the first vaccine in the world against enterotoxigenic E. coli diarrhea.

The vaccine which consists of inactivated E. coli bacteria expressing protective antigens and the ETEC-based B subunit protein LCTBA was tested among children from 6 months to 5 years of age.

Enterotoxigenic E. coli is the main reason for the development of diarrhea in children and tourists, Vax Before Travel reported.

Based on the results of this trial, advanced studies were initiated in September 2019 to further test safety, immune responses and protection of ETVAX (including dmLT) in African children 6-23 months of age.
