Chris Poulos, 32, has been paralyzed after surfing accident, Daily Mail reported

According to the source, he went to the beach in the Australian city of Newcastle (north of Sydney) after work. During skating, he flew off the board, hit his head on a sandbank and lost consciousness.

Chris was saved by people nearby: they pulled him out of the water and called an ambulance. Arriving at the scene, doctors urgently sent the injured to the Royal North Coast Hospital in Sydney with suspected spinal injury. Chris underwent surgery on the damaged cervical vertebrae, however was paralyzed.

Currently, Chris is still in intensive care, although he has already been disconnected from the ventilator.

'Chris is awake, breathing and speaking. He’s keeping the nurses and doctors on their toes in true Chris Poulos style,’ said his wife.
