January 14, 2020  09:45

Chinese specialists successfully performed a surgery to replace three tumor-eroded thoracic vertebrae with customized 3D-printed implants.

The patient was a 25-year-old woman. And thanks to this surgery, she managed to avoid the development of paralysis as a result of damage to the spine, Xinhua reported.

According to doctors, each patient has a unique physiology, which requires treatment in accordance with his personality. Orthopedic 3D-printed implants, according to Chinese experts, should contribute to the development of production and lower medical costs for patients.

In the near future, experts plan to conduct research on the integration of porous metal materials and bone surfaces. This can solve the problem of implant rejection and bone degradation.
