Chinese coronavirus kills 17 people, it reaches US, Wuhan city closed: Latest updates

A total of 17 people have been killed from pneumonia caused by the new 2019-nCoV coronavirus, and the number of confirmed cases rose to 541.

According to local authorities, over 2,000 people who could be in contact with the infected are now in quarantine.

Wuhan City is closed

The Chinese city of Wuhan, where the outbreak of the coronavirus began, was quarantined: the city must not be left by public transport, entry into it is limited; flights, the departure of trains and buses from the city are temporarily suspended, the restrictions take effect today, from 10 a.m. local time. Authorities recommend residents to not leave the city to prevent the spread of the disease.

The population of Wuhan exceeds 11 million people, it is the largest city in central China.

Virus reaches the US 

The coronavirus has reached the US. According to the representative of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in US, the man aged nearly 30 was found to be infected. He has recently flown from the Chinese city of Wuhan. His condition is assessed as stable.

Cases in Russia

Coronavirus was suspected in two patients  in Russia (a Chinese student and a Russian citizen), but, according to the latest data, it was not confirmed. According to doctors, the symptoms of both can be linked to the usual SARS.

Other countries

Four more cases were detected in Thailand, 2 in Hong Kong, one each in Macau, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and the US.
