Expert says Armenian parliament includes people who represent interests of tobacco industry

February 15, 2020  14:12

Armenian parliament includes people who represent the interests of the tobacco industry and are doing everything to ensure that this industry does not suddenly suffer, said chief adviser of the national health institute of health ministry David Petrosyan.

According to him, the adoption of the anti-tobacco law on February 13 is a victory for the entire Armenian people. The results of this decision will be felt in the future, when there will be fewer smokers in the country and people will suffer less from diseases linked to smoking.

The specialist recalled the law was developed taking into account the experience of other countries where anti-tobacco laws have been in force for over a dozen years.

According to David Petrosyan, the anti-tobacco law in Armenia was adopted with great difficulty, as tobacco lobbying in Armenia is even in the highest instances.
