CDC: COVID-19 can spread one to three days before symptoms appear

April 2, 2020  11:59

People infected with coronavirus can transmit the infection from one to three days before symptoms start to appear, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported.

According to The Daily Mail, specialists have analyzed the data of 243 patients with COVID-19 who were treated in Singapore between January 23 and March 16. They were able to identify seven ‘clusters’ when the transmission was possible before the onset of symptoms.

In four such groups, the infection occurred 1-3 days before the onset of symptoms in the person from whom the studied patients became infected.

These data show that in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, it may not be enough just to isolate and limit people’s contacts with the symptoms of this infection, because it turns out that these people are contagious even before the onset of symptoms. All this once again emphasizes the importance of social distance for the fight against coronavirus.
