Mediterranean diet slows down prostate cancer development, study claims

January 9, 2021  22:18

The Mediterranean diet slows the progression of prostate cancer, as American scientists have found.

According to a study published in the Cancer journal, men adhering to the rules of this diet better tolerated the disease.

Many studies have repeatedly confirmed the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet, including for the cardiovascular system. The new study provides new insights into dietary recommendations that will be scientifically substantiated.

Over 400 men with stage 1 or 2 prostate cancer were recruited for the study. All participants underwent biopsies at the start of the study. Experts assessed their condition every six months.

Thus, greater adherence to the Mediterranean diet was associated with a lower risk of cancer progression at follow-up screenings.
