Which professions increase the risk of contracting COVID-19?

Ritual workers are 2-3 times more susceptible to coronavirus infection than health workers.

The reasons are not yet clear, because health workers could become infected both from contact with bodies and with living people. This is described in a new study, which was published in the scientific journal International Journal of Infectious Diseases.

Scientists from Qatar found that the proportion of morgue workers who are sick and have antibodies to COVID-19 is 19.1%, and among cemetery workers - 29.6%. At the same time, the proportion of sick medical workers was 10.6%.

The study involved 47 morgue workers and 81 cemetery workers. They all passed a PCR test or an antibody test. Scientists also took samples from the surfaces of the working areas, but they did not find traces of the coronavirus there. It is also known that most of the study participants lived in hostels, that is, they were at greater risk of contracting infection at home.

The reason for the increased risk of infection among workers in the ritual sphere is still unclear to scientists.

A number of experts noted that although there is a chance of getting infected from the deceased, the pathologist who opened the body is more at risk, rather than ordinary workers in morgues or cemeteries.
