Who is afternoon nap good for?

Who can nap in the afternoon? And how can it be done better? Somnologist Mikhail Poluektov (Russia) has expressed his view on this matter.

According to AiF.ru, afternoon nap is good only for people who are fully rested at night, and it is only on this condition that an afternoon nap is useful for cognitive functions and helps to improve performance and memory. Otherwise, according to the sleep specialist, afternoon nap is harmful.

As per Poluektov, it is important to choose the right time for a quality afternoon nap.

"There have been studies in which people slept for 15, 16, and 17 hours. It turned out that it is better to do it after lunch, at 3pm. The ideal duration [for this afternoon nap] is 20 to 30 minutes. The so-called 'sleep inertia' starts in half an hour; it is more difficult for a person to wake up and get to work," added the somnologist.
