How to restore your sense of smell after COVID-19?

February 2, 2022  19:27

Scientists have found a way to restore the sense of smell after suffering a coronavirus infection. According to Izvestia, laser therapy can help with this.

A new study has found that insensitivity to smells is a common symptom of COVID-19 that usually resolves within a few weeks. In some cases, anosmia can remain in a person for a longer period. American scientists from the University of Texas believe that this may be due to damage to the olfactory epithelium - the nasal mucosa. And in such cases, in their opinion, cell regeneration can help patients.

According to scientists, photobiomodulation therapy based on the use of lasers, LEDs and broadband light will help restore the sense of smell. Each of the participants in their experiment had an improvement in their loss of smell.

Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology named after Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences I.B. Soldatov of the Samara State Medical University Tatyana Vladimirova (Russia), in turn, believes that phototherapy for the treatment of anosmia can be justified, but it is recommended to use it in combination with other methods.
