The Omicron variant of the coronavirus is also very widespread among children under 18 years of age, and pediatric wards of hospitals are working in full capacity to provide them medical care. The Minister of Health of Armenia, Anahit Avanesyan, told this to reporters Thursday.
According to her, the average age of patients hospitalized with the Omicron variant is 47 years old; that is, there is a decrease in the respective average age.
"If we had the same numbers in the case of the Delta variant, the hospitals’ overload would have been much higher," Avanesyan added.
At the moment, according to her, the hospital bed capacity in Armenia is not completely full; and if necessary, new beds will be available.
However, all this, according to the minister, does not mean that the Omicron variant can be overlooked, as at the moment about 80 percent of those hospitalized have the Omicron, and there are those infected with this variant among the COVID-19 deaths being registered.
According to Avanesyan, the hospitalization percentage of those in Armenia who have contracted the coronavirus is low, at present, but if there will be a large number of infected people, the number of people in need of hospitalization will also be high.
