Pain in various organs can be a physical sign of depression. Such an opinion was expressed by psychologist Artur Alchakov.
In an interview with Izvestia, the specialist noted that up to 5% of the population suffers from depression, people with depression have lower levels of neurotransmitters—such as serotonin—which also are called "joy hormones" because they provide positive emotions, peace of mind, and happiness.
According to Alchakov, a stimulus for the development of depression can be stress or feelings, but sometimes depression can be endogenous. In addition, doctors often detect a genetic predisposition to this disease.
Depression affects the person’s perception of the world, as the person begins to see everything only in a gloomy light, what used to be joyful no longer evokes enlightened feelings, and the motivation to do something is also lost.
As per the expert, women suffer from depression more often than men—and due to the peculiarities of the women’s hormonal system.
Depression can have physical signs as well, and the following deserve special attention:
. Decreased concentration, increased distraction
. Energy fades, weakness grows
. Libido decreases
. There is pain in the organs and the systems of the body
. There may be insomnia, or sleep becoming too long
. Irritability increases
. Appetite is lost
. There is a feeling of a lump in the throat
The specialist warned that other illnesses—including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and arthritis—can actively develop in a depressive state.
