Signs of vitamin deficiency

The condition of the nails can often tell what vitamins are lacking in the body, said nutritionist Jessica Sepel.

As tells Metro, poor nail quality, uneven plate and slow growth can indicate a lack of zinc. Brittle nails can indicate a lack of iron and protein. And if white spots appear on the nails, we can assume that the body lacks zinc, calcium, B vitamins or essential fatty acids.

To strengthen the nails, the nutritionist advises adding seafood, eggs, dairy products to the diet, as they contain iodine. The body can get zinc from oysters, beef, nuts, seeds and beans.

Sepel also advised taking collagen and vitamin supplements.

"Vitamin complexes containing iodine, zinc, iron and selenium can really contribute to healthy and strong nails," she said.
