Study shows that coffee is actually good for heart

Daily consumption of coffee improves cardiovascular system function and reduces the risk of a number of diseases, including arrhythmia, the  scientists of the University of Melbourne (Australia) said.

This is reported in three studies published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

The researchers found that consumption of coffee (ground or instant) in an amount not less than 2-3 cups per day is associated with a significant reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease and related and other causes of mortality.

The first study analyzed data from 382,535 people with an average age of 57. It found that 2-3 cups of coffee a day over a 10-year period contributed to a 1.1-fold reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease and a 1.16-fold reduction in mortality.

In a second study involving 502,543 people, regular coffee consumption was shown to be associated with reduced mortality from common cardiovascular disease. Among 24,111 participants with diagnosed arrhythmias, drinking just one cup of coffee a day was associated with the lowest risk of mortality, especially in patients with atrial fibrillation or flutter.

A third study showed that drinking 2-3 cups of ground coffee per day was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease. At the same time, this reduction was smaller with instant coffee. In addition, decaffeinated coffee also contributed to lower mortality, indicating the presence of non-caffeinated compounds affecting health.
