Are time-limited diets good for weight loss?

April 25, 2022  23:02

Time-restricted diets do not have significant benefits for accelerated weight loss. This is reported in a new study, the results of which were described in the New England Journal of Medicine.

An international team of researchers from the Southern Medical University (SMU) in China and the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in the US followed 139 obese volunteers during the experiment.

The researchers chose a random number of people who were prescribed a reduced-calorie diet between 8 am and 4 pm. Dietary restrictions were also divided by gender: women were allowed to consume from 1200 to 1500 kilocalories per day, and men from 1500 to 1800 kilocalories. All participants in the study regularly measured the weight and volume of the body.

At the end of the year, it turned out that volunteers with a temporary food restriction lost more weight on average than the other group that did not, but the differences were not very significant. Scientists believe that time-restricted diets do not help people lose weight more effectively.
