How to relieve migraine attack?

Sweet foods, warm showers, massage, as well as peace and quiet can help relieve pain during a migraine attack, Professor Mikhail Kutushov, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and a toxicologist, told URA.RU.

"With migraine it is necessary for a person to be in silence. Everyone uses different ways to fight it. They say that sweets help, but chocolate should not be eaten with migraine. Some people use dimly lit showers and baths to help. It is also possible to lie in a room with dim light, massage the temples, forehead, neck, and shoulders. In the fight against the increasing frequency of migraine attacks it is necessary to apply a complex treatment. It is necessary to follow the regime of your diet. Physical activity, precise sleep schedule, timely visits to the doctor to monitor the condition of blood vessels and health in general are also necessary," says Professor Kutushov.

The doctor-toxicologist clarified exactly how migraine manifests itself. "It is a chronic neurological disease. It manifests itself with periodic signs of excruciating headache. It can be genetically transmitted and manifests itself even in childhood. People who suffer from migraines have a drop in ability to work on the days of attacks. The pain is usually in one part of the head only, throbbing, and there is nausea and vomiting. There is also irritation from light and noise. It has been established that the causes of migraine are emotional stress, constant stress, taking certain types of medications, weather changes, physical fatigue, lack or excess of sleep," noted the academician.
