August 29, 2022  20:37

Long-term smokers are at risk of atherosclerosis by the age of 50, one of the signs of this disease is limb chills, Rustem Gayfutdinov, neurologist, associate professor of neurology, neurosurgery and medical genetics department of Kazan State Medical University, told NEWS.ru.

According to him, due to sedentary lifestyle and poor physical condition, smokers may have severe pain associated with critical muscle ischemia.

"If we look at the systemic manifestations of atherosclerosis, men with poor physical activity have to stop every 50 meters because of the sharp pain associated with critical muscle ischemia. A man has a lack of blood flow to the heart muscles and angina occurs," said Gayfutdinov.

The doctor noted that atherosclerosis may be inherited, for example, due to familial hypercholesterolemia.

According to Gayfutdinov, dizziness during sudden movements, darkness and flickers in the eyes may also indicate the disease.
