U.S. doctors advise Armenian residents to stop smoking to prevent strokes

October 11, 2022  17:21

The population in Armenia should actively campaign against smoking and for an active lifestyle in order to prevent strokes, said Professor Viken Babikian, neurologist at Boston University, at a press conference on October 11 on the state program for treatment of acute ischemic strokes

He advised reducing sugar and animal fat intake, replacing it with vegetable oil, and engaging in 3 hours of physical activity per week.

Mikael Skon Muratoglu, associate professor of neurology at Alberta University in Canada, in turn, recommended limiting salt intake and quitting smoking.

He noted the need to actively work with the population, develop the system, improve the quality of human resources, promote healthy lifestyles, and open disease prevention clinics.

Armenia has a corresponding stock of knowledge and experience for this, and they need to be used. In any case, the most difficult thing is not the treatment, but changing the behavior of citizens, the doctor concluded.
