More than 135 thousand people were infected with coronavirus infection and more than 2 thousand died from COVID-19 in the world from May 27 to June 23. This was reported by the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to its fact sheet, 135,156 cases of covid infection and 2,054 deaths were reported globally from May 27 to June 23. This means that compared to the previous four weeks, the global incidence rate was virtually unchanged and deaths were down 3%. In Europe, however, WHO said morbidity rose by 21% and mortality by 65%.

WHO emphasized that the data available to it do not fully reflect the real situation with COVID-19 in the world due to a decrease in the intensity of testing and genomic sequencing. From May 27 to June 23, cases were reported from 95 countries and territories out of 234, i.e. 41%. According to WHO, these statistics are incomplete.

In four weeks, 38,978 infected people were reported from Russia. In addition to Russia, the top five countries with the most new cases were New Zealand (19,993), the UK (13,845), Thailand (9,329) and Greece (8,444). The US had the most deaths in four weeks with 1,284. Portugal (223), Russia (146), New Zealand (93) and Greece (34) came next.

A covid emergency regime was in effect for global health from the end of January 2020 to May 5, 2023. As of July 7, 2024, WHO reported 775,754,322 cases of coronavirus infection and 7,053,902 deaths worldwide.
