108 cases of West Nile virus recorded so far in Armenia, health minister says
To date, 108 cases of the West Nile virus have been recorded in Armenia, Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan told reporters Thursday.
She noted that the respective anti-epidemic information work is being carried out in all provinces of Armenia, and added that all available measures against mosquitoes must be used in the country.
"At the moment, we find that the rate of decrease [in the West Nile virus cases in Armenia] is not enough, and we believe we will keep the [respective] work active during the next month in order to ensure the decrease along with the season," said Avanesyan.
The health minister confirmed that the aforesaid recorded numbers are worrying, but the West Nile virus symptoms are observed solely in 20 percent of the population—and mostly among the elderly.
Also, Avanesyan reminded that the West Nile virus is not transmitted from person to person, but only through mosquitoes.
