Smoking hookah, eating too much fried meat, and drinking too much hot drinks can increase the risk of developing cancer. Dr. Mikkael Sekeres, chief of hematology at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in Florida, told this to The Daily Mail, the latter reports.
According to him, one of the most risky factors for cancer remains smoking, including hookah, which is mistakenly considered less harmful than cigarettes. Studies show that hookah smoke contains tar, carbon monoxide, heavy metals and carcinogens, and long-term smoking of hookah contains a larger dose of toxins than smoking a single cigarette.
Also, Dr. Sekeres advised not to eat meat that is often grilled or cooked at high temperatures. He explained that frying beef, poultry, fish, and pork produces heterocyclic amines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, compounds that can cause mutations and contribute to the development of cancer. These substances cause inflammation and oxidative stress, disrupting the balance between antioxidants and free radicals.
Very hot drinks are also dangerous for health. For example, a study conducted in China showed that people who drank tea at a temperature above 60°C and drank alcohol at the same time were at a fivefold higher risk of developing esophageal cancer. A study conducted in the UK confirmed similar results: drinking four or more cups of hot tea or coffee a day was linked to an increased risk of throat cancer.
