Scientists propose new way to save lungs of COVID-19 patients

May 26, 2020  23:27

Scientists from Sweden have proposed treating lung tissue damage with stem cells as a major complication of COVID-19 infection.

According to the newspaper Izvestia, stem cells can prevent an acute reaction of the immune system, which leads to acute respiratory distress syndrome - a condition where the lungs lose their ability to saturate the blood with oxygen.

Scientists from Sweden have found a way to prevent this condition by using mesenchymal stromal cells to treat ARDS.

These cells can control the functioning of the immune system.
