Too slow mass vaccination against coronavirus can lead to the emergence and rapid spread of new, more infectious strains of the virus, noted an infectious disease specialist from the University of Augusta Rodger MacArthur.
According to TASS, the infectious disease specialist does not exclude that in some cases of the spread of new varieties of the virus, including the delta variant, it may require re-vaccination. Moreover, in the future, drugs specifically designed against certain mutations of the coronavirus may be needed.
MacArthur also acknowledged that today delta plus is considered the most dangerous and contagious variety of coronavirus.
It is 50% or even 60% more infectious than the alpha variant, which, in turn, is more infectious than the original SARS-CoV-2 variant, the specialist noted.
