The Omicron strain of coronavirus causes significantly milder pneumonia than the delta strain, the experts at the Research Center for Scientific Medicine at the University of Tokyo said.
According to TASS, the researchers found that hamsters infected with the omicron strain had a lower degree of lung damage than those infected with the delta strain.
Japanese experts also noted that lethal cases have been recorded among hamsters even when infected with the omicron coronavirus strain. In this regard, they urged caution and reminded that the elderly and people with chronic diseases are still at high risk.
