Glaxo hides dangers of Zantac for over 40 years
The British pharmaceutical company Glaxo has been hiding the dangers of its stomach ulcer and heartburn drug Zantac for more than 40 years, Bloomberg reports.
The agency found that this was due to the drug's active ingredient ranitidine, which releases a strong carcinogen N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) when taken as medicine. And the manufacturer has known about this side effect since 1978.
The company hid the results of the research and did not recall the drug from pharmacy shelves.
The dangers of ranitidine became widely known in 2019. Drugs around the world began to be recalled.
Meanwhile, a number of pharmacists claim that the increased risk of cancer from taking Zantac has not been proven.
