Baby girl born weighing 592 grams defies the odds of survival - and reunites with her twin brother after spending their first 10 months apart

A baby girl who was born prematurely weighing just 592 grams has defied the odds of survival as she reunites with her twin brother.

Baby Mila has miraculously pulled through after spending the first 10 months fighting for her life at the Monash Children's Hospital in Victoria.

Their mother Nola went into labour early before she gave birth to twins at 29 weeks after her baby daughter struggled to grow in the womb.

Mila - who was slightly bigger than a pen - tipped the scales at just 592 grams while her twin brother Kai weighed a healthy one-and-a-half kilograms.

Little Mila was placed in the hospital's intensive care unit for the next 10 months after suffering lung problems and infections.

'We were sort of told throughout that she might not even make it,' her mother said.

Her father Peter added: 'Statistically, they said the was a 40 per cent chance she would not go home, ever.'

But against all odds, the brave girl proved herself to be a fighter - with the love of her twin brother - after her condition improved.

'Throughout it all, she just kept reminding us how strong she was and how much she wanted to get through this, and tough it out,' her mother said.

Little Mila now weighs more than six kilograms as she prepares to come home with her doting family for the first time in two weeks time.

By sharing the story, the family wanted to raise awareness for the hospital's new campaign called Imagination Appeal.
