Laser hair removal treatment stripped the pigmentation from woman's face - leaving her with discolouration and scarring

April 5, 2019  13:08

A woman has claimed that what should have been a standard beauty treatment has left her face permanently scarred and pigmentation damage.

Lillian Paul told A Current Affair on Wednesday she recently visited a local beauty salon in Melbourne to undergo a laser hair removal on her face.

But instead of walking out with smooth skin, she claims the treatment stripped the pigmentation from her face, leaving a distinct discolouration that required months of painful treatment.

Having never tried the service before, Ms Paul said she wasn't quite sure what to expect, but was surprised with the 'excruciating' pain.

Stunned with the results, Ms Paul said she went to hospital for help and was met by horrified medics.

Ms Paul said staff told it would take months, if not years, for her skin to recover.

She claims she was forced to quit her job and spend an entire two months at home, out of direct sunlight.

As a part of her recovery, Ms Paul said she had to 'peel the skin on her face back to let it heal.'

'That was very painful. It was think burnt skin I was pulling off my face twice a week. I have to wear a lot of colour correcting foundation now to feel comfortable,' she said.

Ms Paul was just one of a number of women who voiced their concerns to A Current Affair about the beauty clinic.

Ms Paul was financially compensated by the salon.
