Child, 8, lives with needle in his neck for 6 years

An 8-year-old boy from the Chinese province of Henan spent nearly six years with fragments of a needle broken into three parts in his neck, AsiaOne reported.

Tthe child’s grandfather noticed that the grandson was strangely inactive and often falling, but he simply attributed it to a calcium deficiency and didn't spare an extra thought.

According to Chinese media outlet Hua Shang Wang, CT scans showed there were three foreign metal bodies found within him, two of them lodged in his spinal canal, and one adjacent to his windpipe.

Parents could not find an explanation for how a 5-centimeter sewing needle was in the neck of a child.

Neurosurgeon Li Tao said that it is necessary to operate the child and get these items, otherwise, the child could remain paralyzed for life. He also explained that the needle fragments were quite close to the trachea and arteries, so the operation was risky, but it was necessary to make it.

The surgery took place on July 7 and lasted for over seven hours. The pieces were extracted and when pieced together turned out to be a sewing needle spanning 5cm.

The boy is already on the road to recovery and will be released from the hospital in a few days.
