Study: Dark chocolate lowers risk of depression

August 2, 2019  09:37

Dark chocolate lovers are less prone to depression.

As part of the study, University College London surveyed 13,000 people regarding chocolate consumption and the presence of symptoms of depression, Depression and Anxiety reported.

It turned out that dark chocolate lovers were less likely to report any clinical manifestations of depression. A similar pattern is not observed among those who consume milk or white chocolate.

Experts point out that chocolate contains a number of psychoactive components, including analogs of anandamide, which, like cannabinoids, cause euphoria. There is phenylethylamine in chocolate, whose derivatives are psychedelics and stimulants.

During depression, a person consumes less chocolate, because he has a craving for sweets.
