How does artificial intelligence help improve neurological disease treatment?

October 30, 2019  18:49

Artificial intelligence can help organize more effective treatment for neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, and even stroke, Icometrix CEO Wim Van Hecke told NEWS.am Medicine.

By the way, he has arrived in Armenia to participate in the Global Innovation Forum 2019.

According to him, an important role is played by brain scanning when people face such diseases: the data obtained using CT and MRI are necessary not only to diagnose these diseases, but also to monitor treatment, to understand whether the selected treatment works or if it is necessary to resort to something else.

Icometrix uses software based on artificial intelligence technology, which analyzes brain scans and provides the information needed to diagnose a neurological disease and to monitor the effectiveness of its treatment.

According to the expert, this technology is already used in over 100 hospitals in the US and Europe.

As he noted, we will be surprised in the near future why we did not use this data obtained from a brain scan before.

These technologies are quickly becoming part of standard treatment, he said addinf that the future lies in personalized medicine, which involves helping patients not as a group of people with the same disease, but individually, looking for the treatment that will work best for the particular patient.
