Coffee may have unique anti-cancer properties and reduce the risk of developing the most common type of liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) by 50%, said researchers from Queen's University in Belfast.

According to The Daily Mail, coffee beans contain many polyphenols that can stop the division of cancer cells, the scientists said adding that the anticancer compounds in coffee can also include chlorogenic acid, which can prevent dangerous inflammation in the body. And, as you know, chronic inflammation and cancer are associated.

Scientists analyzed data from approximately 500,000 people over seven years, of which more than three quarters drank coffee.

And they had a 50% lower chance of developing liver cancer compared to people who did not drink coffee at all. The positive effect persisted even when drinking, smoking and obesity were taken into account.

According to the study, the risk of developing liver cancer is reduced on average by 13% with every cup drunk daily.
