4 simple tips from cardiologist to improve sleep

December 7, 2019  20:38

Bad sleep increases the risk of developing cardiovascular and many other diseases, according to cardiologist Martin Halle from Germany.

A healthy and high-quality sleep, according to the expert, is consistent with the natural 24-hour human biorhythms. In the morning, the body releases certain hormones that support activity and vigor and reduces the amount of sleep hormones, and in the evening the reverse order is carried out.

According to him, our biorhythms are genetically predetermined, and changing them is not easy. If we change them, staying awake at night or going to bed only in the morning, the brain begins to secrete substances that can disrupt important processes in the body.

As a result of sleep that does not correspond to natural biorhythms, blood vessels can become inflamed, and the balance of food and energy consumption can be lost, resulting in an increase in fat mass, the specialist said.

The cardiologist gave four simple tips that can help improve sleep quality and reduce the risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and many other problems:

- Sleep at least 7 hours a day;
- Go to bed and wake up at the same time, including on weekends;
- Try not to consume caffeine in the afternoon, especially if you are sensitive to it;
- Stop drinking alcohol in the evening.
