Tropical plant to be base of revolutionary drug against aggressive cancer

December 16, 2019  10:56

Researchers from the University of Bath have made three new molecules similar to Grandifloracin, a chemical found in the tropical plant Uvaria grandiflora, which grows in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.

According to scientists, these drugs will be more effective in fighting aggressive cancer and less toxic than currently used.

Experts remind that pancreatic cancer is very aggressive and usually a tumor develops faster than blood vessels deliver nutrients to the body. This leads to the fact that healthy cells begin to starve and die, and cancer cells continue to grow.

The drugs eliminate the ability of cancer cells to tolerate hunger. As a result, these cells die, and healthy cells with a normal supply of nutrients remain unaffected.
