Armenia woman dies of swine flu

A 39-year-old woman died of a swine flu in Armenia on Friday, the first confirmed death from А H1N1 (swine flu) registered this year.

The woman had a fever during ten days, but did not hurry consult a physician, NEWS.am Medicine has learned. They took her to hospital when she fell unconscious.

The doctors told our correspondent that the patient was critical. The woman suffered respiratory failure and other problems caused by the flu. The doctors did not manage to save her life.

Armenian health ministry confirmed the woman had А H1N1.

H1N1 is a virus first detected in humans in 2009.  This type of virus is associated with the 1918 outbreak known as the Spanish flu. The experts claim now it is considered a “common” seasonal flu now. However, the flu is dangerous for children, old people, pregnant women and people with chronic diseases.

It is yet unclear whether the woman suffered from a chronic disease, but the experts say she did not consult the doctors on time.
