Obese people have lower levels of COVID-19 antibodies, study claims
Obesity is considered one of the biggest risk factors for complications from COVID-19.
American scientists have found that being overweight can also increase the risk of contracting coronavirus.
According to medportal.ru, patients with a high body mass index (BMI) often have respiratory dysfunction, in which unwanted changes in respiratory mechanisms occur, increased airway resistance, impaired gas exchange, and low lung volume and muscle strength are recorded. Obesity also increases the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, and other diseases that make a person particularly vulnerable to pneumonia.
In a new study, scientists from the University of Miami found that in people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the level of IgG antibodies against the coronavirus was negatively associated with body mass index (BMI). This means that obese people had lower levels than normal-weight people.
