WHO: COVID-19 mortality rate decreases by 20% in a week

COVID-19 new cases decreased globally from February 15 to 21 by 11%, and the death toll has declined by 20% in a week, the WHO reported in Geneva.

According to TASS, the death toll decline has been recorded for the sixth consecutive week.

Over the past week, 2,457,026 infections and 66,359 deaths were recorded. As of February 21, there were 110,763,898 infections and 2,455,331 patient deaths worldwide.

The most notable decline in cases over the past week was recorded in the Americas (by 19%), the Western Pacific region (by 9%), Europe (by 7%) and the Eastern Mediterranean (by 7%). Mortality there also fell - by 23%, 6%, 19% and 3%, respectively. A decrease in mortality was also recorded in Africa (by 20%) and Southeast Asia (by 6%).
